Repair Handbook: Troubleshooting Roundup for Electrical System of Electric Tricycle-1

1、 The meter has normal display but the motor does not run.

(1) Causes:

① Brake lever damaged, ② Throttle damaged, ③ Motor damaged, ④ Controller damaged

(2) Troubleshooting:

① Generally rain and moisture are more likely to cause short circuit in the connector. Unplug the brake lever socket (normally-on lever). If the motor runs, it is a brake lever failure, and the lever should be replaced.

② If the power supply of the throttle is normal (the voltage is 5V), detect its signal voltage, which should change from low to high between 0.8-4.2V when rotating it. If the voltage does not change and is less than 1V, it is a throttle failure or a short circuit in the throttle wire. If the voltage is greater than 1V and changes normally, detect the motor’s Hall signal (yellow, green, and blue wires). If all three-phase Hall signal wires are 5V in voltage and in good contact, the motor Hall is damaged, and the motor or Hall elements should be replaced.

③ Detect the Hall signal wires of the motor separately, and the voltage of each phase should vary between 0V and 5V when slowly rotating the motor by hand. If there is no change in voltage, the motor Hall is damaged, and the motor or Hall elements should be replaced. If the voltage of each phase changes normally and the power supply is normal, the controller is damaged and should be replaced.

④ Test the input voltage of the controller power supply with a multimeter, which should be equal to the battery voltage. If no voltage, the incoming wire should be checked; Check the mains voltage (red and black wires connected to the throttle) of the controller throttle, the normal voltage is 5-6V. If less than 5V, unplug the throttle socket. If the voltage can be recovered to 5V, there may be a short circuit at the motor Hall elements. If the voltage is still less than 5V, the controller is damaged and should be replaced.

Tips: If the motor fails to run, checks the motor Hall switch and throttle signal. If the controller housing become hot after power-on, there is generally a short circuit in the internal power tube of the controller, and the power supply should be cut off immediately.
